Which video editing workstation is right for you?

Are you looking for a new video editing workstation? If so, you've got a number of options to look at. You also have a lot of questions you need to ask yourself.

If you're looking to start doing some video editing, a lot of people can make use with a good solid, MacBook Pro laptop or high-end PC laptop.

If you have to get into desktops,  your choice depends on what support equipment you'll need. Here are some questions to ask yourself:

  • Do you need a color correction quality monitor
  • What type of work will you be doing?
  • Are you doing VFX work?
  • What's your budget?

The answers to those questions are going to dictate how many PCI slots you need how much RAM you need, what kind of GPU power you need and it's a pretty wild range.  One of these video editing workstations can very easily go from kind of that $2,000 range, which is probably about as low as your rationally going to get, up to the cost of a small BMW in the size of a Mac Pro Tower.
