Can you backup to a NAS?

Well, let's define backup.  A backup is simply a secondary copy of a digital asset, or more simply… a file.

A NAS is a type of centralized data storage.

Can You Backup To A NAS?

The short answer is yes, you backup to a NAS.  However, make sure it is a backup.  Many people think their NAS is backed up because there is redundancy in the storage.  That is not the case.

A RAID is not a backup.  You want to make sure that if you are using a NAS for backup, it is your secondary copy of the data and you are not just relying on a RAID.
