No Room at the Inn

You might not have known since I pre-recorded last week's videos, but after a lot of waiting my son is finally here! I took last week off to spend some time with my family but I am back in the saddle here at ProMAX.

One of the things that happened right after my son was born, we got stuck in the labor and delivery room where he was born for about 12 hours more than we should have been because the family & recovery area was completely full!

How many times has this happened with projects? You've captured your media and are bringing files in and you look and your storage is full...bummer.

To make room you end up moving data off the storage or move it to different drives for there to be space. We experienced the same thing except instead of media files we were bringing a newborn into the world.

Why does this happen? There's a lot of reasons for this. For starters, it is really easy to leave projects on storage, but one of the big reasons I see this happening is that teams simply just don't have enough storage capacity, especially in network environments, because it costs too much!

Keep in mind, we have fundamentally changed that at ProMAX, a lot of vendors charge what we call the "Storage Tax". We don't do that anymore because we believe you should get fair pricing on storage space so you don't have to go through this hassle of moving files around. It wastes your time.

So moral of the story...don't be like the hospital our son was born at. That way when a new project (or baby) comes in, you can easily throw it on your storage and start working!

Side note: We are not encouraging you to throw babies on storage, strictly video projects!
