Final Cut Pro Troubleshooting Test
Final Cut Pro can present issues if the project file or preferences are corrupted. This corruption can have varying levels so when working on projects for weeks or months it doesn’t hurt to trash the preferences and create new projects from time to time.
1) Close ALL applications.
2) Click on desktop. Find the ?GO? menu at top of screen. Click and roll down to ?Home?.
3) A window opens showing you ?Home? directory. Find the library folder and double click it.
4) In this ?Library? folder find the preferences folder and double click on it.
5) Inside the preferences folder please find a file named: ?com.apple.finalcutpro.plist? and drag it to the trash.
6) Inside the Preferences folder also find a folder named “Final Cut Pro User Data” double click on it.
7) Inside this folder find “MOA Cache” and “Final Cut Pro 3.0 Preferences” and drag them to the trash.
8) Close all windows and relaunch Final Cut Pro.
9) Final Cut Pro should display a ?Choose Setup? dialog box if these steps were done correctly. Make your choices, paying close attention to what scratch disk you select. Never choose ?FCPHD?, ?BackupHD? or ?ArchiveHD? as your scratch disk.
10) Open Final Cut Pro and create a new project. In this project import or capture some clips and see if you are still having issues.
11) If everything seems to be okay. Go to the ?File? menu and roll down to ?New Project?. Open your old project and click the tab of your project in the ?Browser? window.
12) Select all and Copy.
13) Click on the tab in the ?Browser? named ?Untitled Project1?. Click inside this tab window and paste. You have just transferred all your media and sequences to a new project.
14) Save this project as a different name. Close your old project and continue working.
