Designed to allow users playback centrally-stored media based on different criteria, including scheduled, on demand, live video feeds, and event based.
What is an PLAYOUT station?
The PLAYOUT component is designed for any client who needs to play content in an automated environment, including anyone from TV stations, schools and universities, libraries, hotels (pay-per-view), retail stores, kiosks, and webcasters to name a few. For some examples, perhaps a high school needs to play pre-recorded broadcasts every morning to all classrooms at a fixed time, whereas hotels could use the on demand features to charge for movies stored in MPEG-2 on a server that is then delivered to the rooms when chosen. The classic example is a small local TV station that needs to broadcast content. Playout servers are used after the content has been recorded and/or edited, and needs to be aired or played out to a television. Playout servers are usually stored in a separate area to eliminate noise. They are almost never used with any other purpose or intent other than storing and playing back content.
