Protect your Valuable Digital Assets
V-SAN is designed for nonstop operation, promoting central media management and the notion of protecting valuable media assets. Multiple strategies to protect your projects are employed including RAID 3 and 5 data protection at the storage level, optional mirroring at the workgroup level for redundancy, and sophisticated archive and backup to removable media for essential protection of your digital assets. Redundant hot-swappable power supplies, fans and drives enable the system to keep running in the event of a component failure. The system supports true hot-swap capabilities allowing you to replace a failed component without losing data or interrupting service.
Know where your media is at all times
How about simply knowing where the most recent revision is? Since all your media can now reside in a central, secure and manageable environment, being able to find and retrieve your media has never been simpler. Being able to find the appropriate clips you are looking for can save you hours of wasteful time searching for the most up to date revision. Eliminate the concern when an employee does not make it to work and you can’t access the media on their system. No need to hunt through their system and search their workspace looking for your media.
Immedaite access to the media
With V-SAN media sharing begins as soon as the footage is acquired. Whether you are acquiring live video feeds, ingesting from XDCAM, P2 media, DTE devices or, capturing video from tapes via analog component, or any digital format, V-SAN captures in a format that is most applicable to your projects or your personnel. You get immediate, unrestricted access to the footage, in many cases, even before the capture is complete. You eliminate the wait and downtime as tapes or swappable hard drives are copied and circulate around your facility.
Because your editors, animators, and other digital artists can simultaneously work on your media as it's being captured, you don't have to worry about prioritizing one post-production step over another. Acquisition stations can be configured to simultaneously capture high-quality video and lower quality proxy clips for use in a browser. Having your media available to all your post-production applications means an overall increase in your studio's productivity. Those stations supporting SDTI or QSDI can transfer DV material to the central storage at speeds up to four times faster than real time. This is especially advantageous in time-constrained newsroom environments.
No more unnecessary copies of media
The days of making multiple copies and physically passing disk drives around the facility are gone. Now you can eliminate the inefficient, unnecessary creation of local copies of your media files. Not only will you eliminate the actual external hard drives, but also the hundreds of hours spent making hundreds of copies.
Tapeless workflows.
As you migrate from video tape to modern digital acquisition formats such as disk drive based Direct to Edit (DTE) devices, optical environments, such as XDCAM, and solid state - such as P2 media V-SAN is there to provide you with control and allow you to efficiently and effectively manage your digital media. V-SAN can ingest material from a wide variety of sources and create an environment where any of this media can be manipulated by any of the V-SAN workstations at virtually any time.
Flexible Volume Management.
Add storage to storage pools at any time and your system scales in both capacity and performance. Dynamically expand volumes without loosing access to your current storage. As you add storage to your SAN, you inherently add bandwidth, thus increasing the performance of your network as well as adding storage capacity. The system can build RAID sets in the background, enabling you to bring storage online immediately.
Easy workstation and server deployment
V-SAN supports dynamic allocation of resources and can be scaled easily. Deploying a shared server or workstation is simple and can be done without any network downtime. Multiple systems and servers can connect to a single or multiple shared volume. Rent or purchase additional workstations whenever your workload demands. You can add direct connecting workstations or servers to the central storage at any time without bringing the network down or slowing down production. And of course adding clients to the server is as simple as an Ethernet connection and an address.
V-SAN is Modular
The concept of V-SAN is to simply add the capabilities to your system as you need them. You can start out with a configuration as small as two workstations and one pool of storage, then add the various capabilities to your current workstations or add streamlined specialized processors to meet specific production processes. V-SAN can be controlled by as little as one workstation controlling multiple jobs. From a single workstation you can control administration, review, ingesting, encoding, archiving, mastering, playout and a variety of other functions. You don’t need to actually have employees manning these stations, again saving time and money.
Central Storage - Distributed Processing
V-SAN can harness the power of idle workstations and when applicable distribute the processing load to those idle workstations. Additionally render farms are available to significantly improve the speed of processor intensive applications such as Encoding, color correcting, rendering frames and distributed audio processing. Many of the V-SAN applications support distributed processing and will benefit greatly from a render farm. ProMax offers 1U render nodes that include multi-core processors, OpenGL co-processing and high-performance redundant Gigabit ethernet. |
