We started ProMAX in 1994 when the PC industry was new and Apple and IBM were battling it out for lead position in business and creative computing. Back then, system storage was measured in 10’s of mega bytes and RAM was measured in 1000’s of bytes. Regardless of the technology limitations, Charles McConathy, the original founder of ProMAX had a vision to make video editing viable on the personal computer.

Charles knew that huge change was coming as technology was improving quickly. He was an incredibly forceful advocate; pushing technology vendors and the ProMAX staff to continuous improvement in order to get it working, get it right, and make it better.

From the introduction of our own disk storage systems, to packaged turnkey video editing systems, to complex multi-editing system setups using Final Cut Pro, AVID, or Premier, we live video editing.

15 Years later in 2009, with thousands of satisfied customers, we share the same ideals and values for the future of ProMAX. Although Charles is no longer with us, we carry his passion for video editing and are committed to see ProMAX grow and change with the industry.

You would think that after almost 40 years of progressive improvements in video technology that Professional Video Editing would be easy by now. Of course, you would also think that computers would be easy to use and that generally, life would be getting simpler. But it’s not.
