Another month and another product launch. We have just completed the final testing on a few more units that we add to our line of storage products. Our new emphasis is to double the storage space for our high end video storage units from a max of 8 TB (terrabytes) per unit to 16 TB per unit. And on our rack mounted system, we are doubling the space from 16TB to 32TB!
The good news is that the price is not doubling as we are able to get economies of scale when upscaling to higher end drives.
Now if you have purchased or looked at storage in the past, you know there are a lot of factors to consider. They include:
- Connection Type (Firewire, USB, eSata, SAS, SCSI)
- Controller Card Required or not
- Quality and density of disk drives
- Chip set
- Bridge
- Fans and cooling capability
- Noise Level
- Raid Protection
- Removable Trays
- Overall quality of materials
- Warranty
Many of these factors go into determining the speed of speed of the storage and all of them go into determining the price of the product. Remember that when you purchase storage for video editing, speed, reliability, and protection are key.
Don't make the mistake of buying without researching. Storage can be cheap and expensive. Knowing why you choose one over the other is the difference between feeling great about your storage or hating what you purchased.
